Lamination and Encapsulation - the differences

  1. Lamination and encapsulation are both methods used to protect printed material, but they are different processes.

    Lamination is the process of applying a thin plastic film over a printed document or image. The film is heated and then pressed onto the surface of the material, creating a protective barrier that keeps the image or text from fading or becoming damaged. Lamination can also add a glossy or matte finish to the printed material.

    Encapsulation, on the other hand, is the process of sealing a printed document or image between two sheets of plastic. The plastic sheets are typically made of a clear or translucent material, and the document or image is placed between them. The edges of the plastic sheets are then sealed together, forming a protective "envelope" around the printed material. Encapsulation is often used to protect important documents such as certificates, maps, and blueprints.

    Both lamination and encapsulation are suitable for protecting printed materials from wear and tear, but lamination is typically more cost-effective and faster to produce, while encapsulation is typically more durable and resistant to damage.
