Digital Print and its History

  1. Indigo Digital Printers is a brand of digital printing presses that was first introduced by HP (Hewlett-Packard) in the late 1990s. The first Indigo press, the HP Indigo, was launched in 1993 and was specifically designed for the high-volume printing of short-run, high-quality colour documents such as business cards, brochures, and other marketing materials.

    BuyMyPrint were the first in Europe to train on and install Indigos E-Print Pro in 1997, and the first in the UK to use the Pantone colour matching ink service that Indigo offered with their mixing stations.

    The HP Indigo used a unique digital printing process called liquid electrophotography, which enabled it to produce high-quality, full-colour prints at a faster rate and lower cost than traditional offset printing. This made the HP Indigo popular among print service providers and commercial printers, who were able to offer their customers faster turnaround times and lower costs for high-quality printed materials.

    In 2002, HP expanded its Indigo product line with the introduction of the HP Indigo ws4000, a digital press designed for the production of high-volume, high-quality labels and packaging. This press also used liquid electrophotography technology and was able to print on a wide range of substrates, including film, paper, and cardboard.

    In the following years, HP continued to develop and improve the Indigo product line, introducing new presses with even faster printing speeds, higher resolution, and more advanced finishing capabilities.
